Dr. Janet Curran is the inaugural Quality and Patient Safety Research Chair in Nova Scotia. The Chair is supported by the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness, IWK Foundation, IWK Health, Nova Scotia Health, and Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Health.
Dr. Curran's program of research as the Chair is focused on integrating research into the delivery of patient safety to ensure the highest quality of care for Nova Scotians while also building capacity for health system improvement. The overall aim is to design effective interventions and optimize uptake to support sustainable change through the health system, all aimed at improving care for Nova Scotians.

Quality and patient safety (qps) rESEARCH SPEAKER SERIES
QPS Reseach Speakers Series virtual sessions are held quarterly. Their aim is to enhance knowledge, build capacity and networking opportunities in quality improvement and patient safety research in Nova Scotia.
Each session includes a speaker focused on methods and a speaker focused on current QPS research/projects in Nova Scotia. The target audience is quality improvement and patient safety practitioners and researchers in the healthcare system at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health.
This series would be of interest to quality and patient safety leads, researchers, health centre staff, residents, patients, and trainees.

Dr. Greg Hirsch, Senior Medical Director of Perioperative Services for the Province of Nova Scotia, Professor of Surgery, Staff Surgeon and Quality Director, Department of Surgery, Dalhousie University, presented on Continuous Quality Improvement in Nova Scotia.

Dr. Katie Gardner, a Pediatric Emergency Physician at IWK Health and Director of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety for the division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) presented her work on Challenges and Opportunities in Quality Improvement Research in the Emergency Department.
